Astronomical Links
This document is a collection of various links that might be of interest
to amateur astronomers.
These sites were created by other amateurs or individuals interested
in astronomy.
- The Webcam Astrophotography. A great site for those working with Webcams, some great info here to help you along!
- The Society of Amateur
Radio Astronomers maintains a web page with information and links
related to amateur radio astronomy.
- The
StarLore Constellation Guide by Richard J. Bartlett contains
information about the sky organized by constellation. Bright stars,
doubles, and deep sky objects are all presented.
- The Interactive NGC
Catalog Online. Detailed information (including links to images)
of the entire NGC (and IC and Messier) catalogs. This page also
includes a list of links to other NGC related material. Maintained by
Hartmut Frommert.
- The Messier Catalog.
A very nice page describing the Messier Catalog that is also
maintained by Hartmut Frommert.
- The Herschel 400
page has information on many interesting deep sky objects. This page
features 400 objects originally recorded by Herschel. It is dedicated
to the belief that there are many interesting and exciting deep sky
objects beyond just the "showpieces" of the sky.
- The authors of the Herschel 400 page also have some good
information on the Messier
Catalog.
These sites contain information on astronomy, space exploration, or
other related topics. Some of these sites were created for professional
astronomers and are quite technical; they would only be of interest to
very "serious" amateurs. However, some of these sites would be of
interest to anyone who enjoys the sky. Finally, some of these sites are
collections of links to other sites.
- The American Association of
Variable Star Observers is the place to go for information about
variable stars.
- CelesTrak. Orbital elements
for satellites orbiting the Earth. Quite technical.
- Center for
Advanced Space Studies.
- The Central
Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams is the place to report
discoveries of comets and the like. Subscribe to the Computer Service
and check the position of a potentially new discovery against that of
every known comet and asteroid.
- Comet Observation. Comet
news, ephemerides, and information. This is an excellent site.
- David Dunlap
Observatory. Database of information on galactic classical
cepheid variables.
- European Space Research and
Technology Centre. The European Space Agency (ESA) conducts many
missions of interest. This page details their various programs.
- Goddard Space Flight
Center. Information on the GSFC's various missions.
- Comet Hale-Bopp
information.
- Icarus.
An on-line journal for professionals that focuses on solar system
studies.
- The International Dark Sky
Association is dedicated to preserving dark night time
skies. Consider joining! For more information about light pollution,
check out Joe's light
pollution page.
- The International Meteor
Organization. This page contains information on how to observe
meteors, information on the showers themselves, and various other
things.
- Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Information on JPL programs. This is an excellent page with up to the
minute information on all of JPL's missions.
- Johnson Space
Center. Dedicated to putting humans into space.
- Johnson Space Center,
Digital Image Collection. A huge archive of images taken from
various spaceflights.
- IAU: Minor
Planet Center. Information on asteroids of all kinds. Ephemerides
are given for many objects. Near Earth objects and distant objects are
both covered.
- NASA. This
top level page is a good starting point for finding information on all
of NASA's various projects.
- National Optical
Astronomy Observatories. NOAO information.
- National Space
Science Data Center. Information about astronomical data products
(CD-ROMs).
- Naval Research
Laboratory. Interactive browser for Clementine lunar imagery.
- North
American Meteor Network. Coordinates North American amateur
observations of meteors. If you are interested in meteor observing, be
sure to check this page out.
- Palomar Observatory Deep
Sky Survey. Fill out the form to obtain images of any part of the
sky covered by the survey.
- Queen Mary
and Westfield College maintains an excellent list of links to
astronomy resources on the web.
- SETI Institute.
Institute general information and news.

Virtual Library page on Astronomy and Astrophysics. Another
extensive collection of links.
These sites were created by astronomy clubs and societies. If you are
part of a club and would like to have a link here, send me a note and I'll
add you to the list!
Here are sites associated with telescope companies or other
organizations interested in selling you astronomically related
equipment, books, or software. The maintainers of the AAN are not
specifically endorsing any of these organizations or any of their
products. I am including these links here as a service to those of you
who might be interested.
